Celebrating the Feast of St. Therese of the Child Jesus – What Did She Teach?

As part of my daily practice in improving my life, I read the Scriptures. I highly recommend this practice.

(READ: Improvement is a process that encompasses mind, body, and soul.)

Today, on October 1, is the day of the celebration of the St. Therese of Lisieux.

I encourage you to take a moment today to consider the life and teaching of a blessed spiritual master – St. Therese of Lisieux

The life of a Saint instructs us and lifts us up.

The contemplation of the life of a Saint is highly effective in informing a spiritual way of life.

The teachings of St. Therese:

St. Therese began a religious path that she called The Little Way.

In the famous and widely acclaimed Catholicism series, Bishop Robert Barron explains that Saint Therese established a way that any simple believer can follow.

The Little Way has to do with a Spiritual Childhood – becoming a little child in the presence of God the Father: dependent, hopeful, waiting to receive gifts.

The approach of Saint Therese is startling and insightful if you stop to think how we, as children, regard the wonders of the world. Think of how truly and fully they are able to love.

As children approached Jesus in the Gospels, in Mark 10:15-16 Jesus said:

15 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.

16 And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.

Saint Therese wrote this in her autobiography, The Story of the Soul :

Jesus deigned to show me the road that leads to this Divine Furnace, and this road is the surrender of the little child who sleeps without fear in its Father’s arms.

Watch a video clip of Bishop Robert Barron in the Catholicism Series describe the Little Way of St Therese:

Imagine living your life in a mindstate with the courage to be dependent, hopeful, and waiting to receive blessings from the Father; working and anticipating the joy of a glorious sunset, a friend’s birthday, or helping someone elderly or stricken with illness.

Meditate: on the life and The Little Way of St Therese of Lisieux. May you be brave enough to love like her!
